Welcome to Te Awamutu Chamber of Commerce

Growing Vibrant Business through

Education, Advocacy and Relationships

The Te Awamutu Chamber of Commerce is a highly progressive, vital and innovative society of business people. Established 100 years ago, the Chamber continues to bring its members international market intelligence and trading resources through its active links with the 20,000 strong worldwide Chamber of Commerce movement.

Your local Chamber also provides expert business advice as well as operating an active, business-generating, network-building programme right here in Te Awamutu. To find out what is happening next, see What's on

Through the Chamber, we are the powerful voice of the Te Awamutu commercial community, actively engaged in advocacy and representation locally, regionally and nationally. In addition, we provide links and resources to assist individual businesses and promote local business in the wider community.

Chamber Centenary Year

Te Awamutu Chamber of Commerce held its first meeting on 3 August 1911, with the official objectives being "the promotion and advancement by any legitimate means of the welfare of the town and district of te Awamutu."

In 100 years, our objectives are still fairly similar.  We're here to help 'create better businesses and a strong community.'

Centennial Cocktail Evening.

Over 160 local business people enjoyed fantastic food, amazing cocktails and a night of networking - a wonderful way forr Chamber members, past and present, and members of the business community to come together and celebrate this milestone event.

So how do you win in each of these categories?

Business Excellence Awards these awards are where individual businesses enter and describe ‘why they should win’ in 2 of 9 different categories.  They are judged by professional staff from the University of Waikato School of Management on the basis of what each business tells us as they answer the questions in the entry form.  Entries for the 2012 Awards will open in March 2012 and all information on how to complete the entry forms can be found at www.waipabusinessawards.co.nz.  It is also possible to use professional writing services and contact details for these may be found on this website.

Next year – more specific information on exactly what the judges are looking for in each category /question will be available. We also hope the judges will be presenting their criteria and helping to clarify what is required, at the Workshops which will take place in each town.

Customer Service Awards – all members of each Chamber of Commerce are automatically entered in these awards every year, (as well as any other business who may not be a member, but requests they be judged).  Two independent mystery shoppers undertake the phone calls over the entire district (to ensure consistency and non-town bias) followed by two mystery shoppers who undertake the visits.  From a list of semi finalists, finalists and winners are selected.  The finalists with the highest score of points across the district are visited by a panel of 2 different judges (including the sponsor’s Customer Relations Manager) and a winner for the entire district is selected.

The Waipa Networks Business Awards mystery shopping judges use the following judging criteria for the Customer Service Awards –

Telephone:  Greeting, friendliness (tone of voice), knowledge, politeness, farewell

Visit:    Appearance of premises, welcome/acknowledgement, friendliness, product/services  information/display, speed & helpfulness of service, parking/access, farewell

Customer Choice Award – this award is entirely judged by public vote.  By encouraging your customers to vote for you by text and email, the business with the most votes in each town is judged ‘The Customer’s Choice.’ More information at www.waipabusinessawards.co.nz
